Kensington Natural Bakery and Cafe

One of my favourite spots in the city to pick up wheat and gluten-free goods is the Kensington Natural Bakery and Cafe. Found on Bloor St. West across the street from the original Fresh, the friendly bakery obviously isn't situated in the market, but what it lacks in a Kensingtion address, it certainly makes up for in spirit.

On my most recent visit I picked up a vegan pumkin pie (no dairy, eggs, sausage etc.) made with spelt. For $7.75, it's as good a deal as you'll find in the city, especially considering it's such a specialty (read: hard to find) item.

There's plenty of more goodness in store at the Kensington Natural Bakery and Cafe. Many of the items are available as a walk-in (made fresh that day) but they also take custom orders that you can phone in the day before.

Thanks for the heads up on alternate grain product source.
I've just discovered that Alli's Organic Baked Goods usually at St.Lawrence and Dufferin Grove markets has a NEW storefront 1738 St.Clair West by the Silverthon Library.

Have lived in the neighbourhood for years, and have tried this bakery many times. Each time have been attracted back because of the gluten-free alternatives. Unfortunately, each time I've tried, I've been turned off because whatever I've bought has been stale. Not sure of the turnover at this place.

I used to buy their baked goods at other places around the city, but I have recently gone right to them and had lunch on three occasions. Every time I've done so, the food has been given to me lukewarm and it tasted old. You know, the noodles were a little dehydrated and stiff, the veg quite soggy. Unappealing. I shan't spend my money there again.

We went to this Kensington Natural Bakery based on the recommendation of this site. bland and flavourless are the two words that stuck out based on the multiple items we purchased. awful baked goods; a true waste of money and subway token. and this was not due to vegan or gluten-free ingredients. for real wheat/gluten free cookies that aren't poisonous to the taste bud, try the Big Carrot at Chester station on the Danforth. Delicious.
