Future Bakery

More than just a bakery and cafe, "Futures" is an Annex institution serving ready-made hot meals with an Eastern European influence like beef borscht, schnitzel sandwiches and perogies. They also have a bakery in the St. Lawrence Market.

Passable food. If you want really good and authentic Eastern European cuisine, you are way better of at the Prague on Queen. This place is good for a quick cup of coffee and the occasional croissant (if it's not old). I don't expect much from a place like this but a few pints on the patio.
I don't think anyone goes to Futures expecting to eat like they did in the Old Country. I'm just glad to go to a cafe that serves something other than $8 panini and bean salad...
awesome baileys cheesecake..
best cheesecake I have ever tasted.
Unfortunately, yes - the cheesecakes are delicious, but they aren't made by Futures, they're shipped in. This place deserves credit for keeping me going many times throughout highschool and then university, but even then it was really only good for two things: beer, and mashed potatoes with mushroom gravy.
BOYCOTT! they use Styrofoam cups for take out! what??? who does that anymore?? i almost walked out and went to starbucks, but it was cold. and they had spelt cookies.
I was in last Sunday and saw a roach walking along the hot food counter. It upset me, because I really wanted to sit and drink coffee for hours at Future, but that little roach made me leave. :(
It's downtown Toronto. There are roaches in every restaurant... Just because you don't see them doesn't mean they aren't there. Futures is a great place to sit with a cup of coffee and a book. You can stay for hours, winter or summer. Cheap and sitting out on the patio in the warmer months with a pint and some friends is a great way to enjoy the afternoon.
Lots of people like to sit in Futures with coffee and a book, but to me the coffee's not really all that great, and the food's struck me as pretty weak the last few times I've been there. I may be picking poorly, but I was recently disappointed by the grilled vegetable panini offering that came off thick, cold, soggy, and didn't taste of much. On a prior visit, I was unimpressed by their burger.
The homefries are consistently successful, and the BLT is an agreeable snack. Skip the coffee; the orange juice is the tastier choice.
The breakfast is decent, but the bathrooms are one of the most disgusting in the entire city.
