La Tortilleria

Posted by Staff / Reviewed on July 15, 2008

La TortilleraLa Tortilleria is Toronto's first place that makes fresh corn tortillas every day. Not quite as good as what you'll find in Mexico, but still better than the frozen or preservative-laden imported alternative, the tortillas here are fresh, warm and cheap. La Tortilleria also serves tacos (wrapped with the fresh corn tortillas) and homemade Mexican drinks.

As spanish and flavor woman the lack of flavor on the food was all I need to know of lack of taste from the real mexican cuisine my friends are from mexico and they said that it is embarrasing that few places dont effort to present a quality of mexican food and just want to get people mention I am from mexico cook and canadians get full by them but if they go to mexico and taste real food they will realized how they are been mistaking going to few places around toronto - They should think about taste before money, because money is momentary in their pockets but taste of food people will remember for ever.

Hi there!

I'm from Mexico, I went to this place and the unfortunately the food was really bad, the flavors are nothing similar to real Mexican food. I suggest to anyone who want to experiment tasty Mexican food try a different restaurant. The tortillas are good only if you are going to eat them the same day. And also the service isn't great.

There are better mexicans restaurants.

I think that as a Mexican, you should be honest and do not recommend a place, were people is going to have a bad service and end with a wrong taste on Mexico.

I just had lunch at Tortilleria today - it was well priced and I enjoyed it. The best was the pork taco, it wasn't spicy but it was delicious. The service was friendly and prompt. I'm not Mexican and can't comment on the authenticity but I am a food lover and I can say that it was very tasty!

The service is not great and the food is just o.k. I'm from Mexico and a restaurant like this would go broke really fast back there, they don't offer anything remarkable. I don't like when people get this idea about my country that's why they think Mexican food is anything gourmet when it is...

it is funny what"MEXICANS" are saying in this blog. some of them said that this restaurant would broke really fast, well i just have to say it's been almost a year and seven months since this restaurant opened and still open and i know that they are going to opene three more stores so....think about your comments again, cuz i just think that some mexicans are just jealous about this great idea of bringing mexican fresh tortillas in toronto.

I am not Mexican and I have to agree with some comments here, the food is not great at all!
I would not go back to this place or recommend it to anyone. There are a lot of Mexican restaurants that are a lot better than this one. Check out other places first before going to this place.

Sorry to break it to you..but as MEXICANS we KNOW what we are talking about. The food is ok (not saying that is bad) and the idea of having a place where we can buy fresh tortillas is ideal... BUT the service SUCKS!! It's awfully terrible. By the time you get your food it arrives cold! The servers don't know how to serve the food.. they wait until the cook (the only one cook for all three restaurants)come and serve the plates.. each and one of them. The place lacks organization, the servers don't even know the prices and they all have to look for them in crumble pieces of paper hiding underneath the counters. You are right, the restaurants have been opened for more than a year, but if you check the DineSafe public health reviews, you will see that the have many conditional passes on failure tho protect food from contamination and failure to ensure proper employee hygiene or sanitation of washrooms! I think it is disgraceful to claim that they are a successful Mexican Restaurant just because they have a unique idea (Tortilla Machine) but the service provided to its consumers is terrible! and they wont last in a "HIGH STANDARD" community as Canada!
