Nikolau Restaurant Equipment
A jam-packed restaurant supply store with everything you need to prepare for a dinner party or stock one of Toronto's finest restaurants. Honest Ed's has some awesome kitchen supplies, brand names too for amazing prices. You just need to sort through the kind of crummy stuff to find the great stuff!
Kitchen Aid Stand mixer for $200 firsthand?!
must. visit. immediately.
Honest Ed's selection isn't great, but what makes not buy anything there is their no refund/exchange policy.
The Kitchen And Glass Place at 840 Yonge Street is excellent! Great selection and prices, and the owner is helpful, with a penchant for discounting. By comparison, Nikolaou is extremely overpriced.
I should add that if you got to the web site and print out a coupon, you get 15% off:

This is fantastic! I am a master of the culinary arts-in-training (ie a good lover/amateur chef), and this post was like a god-send. Thank you blogTO!
yes -- the kitchenaid is $200 ... brand new
but it's not the artisan or other variants ... it's the base model which is fine for 99% of peoples needs
you're better off finding a friend with a costco membership and buying one from them when they have it on sale (250 for the professional model)
stop eating people, go for a walk instead
Good point. Never eat people, especially uncooked people.
$250 for a prof. model? even better! thanks sanjay, will look into this
Yes Tap Phong!!
Love it, my favourite hands down.
Don't dismiss Canadian Tire. Their specials are stunning. I purchased a large ceramic Teflon Kitchen Aid pan for $20.00 [reg price $60.00].
Every week they have quite a few kitchen ware items at amazing prices. Check out their eflyer for weekly specials. Tough to beat I tell ya.
Just a note: Nella also has a location on Bathurst, just north of Bloor.
I *LOVE* the kitchen and glass place, and Tony is as nice a guy as I've ever met.
My favourite is Kitchen Stuff Plus, so many great deals there. Surprised it was not included?!
Does Tap Phong carry sets of Korean chopsticks? Flat and metal, not round, not plastic.
Don't overlook Placewares, street level of St. Lawrence Market. They have an extraordinarily broad selection of kitchenware stuffed into a small space.
Yes, at least they did in the past. Try T&T or the Korean grocery store at Bloor and Christie, too
The Pepper Mill has some nice high end stuff that you'd find in places like Williams-Sonoma or William Ashley
They have two locations, one in Rosedale, the other in Hazelton lanes, but the guy that works at Hazelton lanes is a grade A dbag. The woman that works there is a bit snarky too, but is tolerable.
Also, don't expect the Bay to be cheaper than some of the high end places. They are often the most expensive.
Most of these places are expensive. The best overall prices I've found at Caynes, if you don't want to hunt for deals all over. I will check the other stores on this list.
Don't overlook places like The Bay, Zellers or Canadian Tire, Kitchen Stuff Plus or Ikea - sometimes they have good prices on certain items and unless you are a millionaire most of us don't need those fancy things.
Tap Phong is cheap, cheap, cheap! It has fantastic stuff - plates, pots, accessories, etc. SO great.
I needed to buy a case of jars from Tap Phong and rather wait for the delivery the next day, I headed over to their warehouse at Dupont and Dufferin. They are definitely supplying to more than just their store. That warehouse was totally insane.
Oh please don't tell me that. Dangerous info!! I'm just going to have to drop by than and spend some money. :)
hey Mary, I'm with you! They DO have great stuff, and i'll always have place in my heart of Honest Ed's and their massive selection kitchen supplies!
Every year William Ashley has a killer sale at their warehouse! On right now
William Ashley Warehouse, 62 Railside Road, Toronto, Ont.
(2 blocks east of the Don Valley Pkwy., South of Lawrence Ave. East)
Nikolaou - SUPER over priced.
Caynes - AWESOME.
Does anyone know where I can get SoyMilk Maker ?
I live in North Scarborough area, between Steeles Ave East and Warden Ave.,
but ok to travel around to get my SoyMilk Maker.
Thanks,
Amy
Caynes would have made the #1 spot had it been located in the downtown core. You've exposed our suburban secret ;)
...and be prepared to stand around outside for hours before you can get inside to shop!!
Wow the largest kitchen supply place in Toronto is over looked Nella.
Is that because its on Norfinch? Not some slum in kensington
Um, it's right there. They have a location on Queen Street too.
Learn to read, please. Meathole.
If you cannot get to one of these stores, you should try Direct Buy Restaurant Supply dot com. It has awesome prices and excellent customer service!
